This highly unusual Australian Aboriginal hafted axe has the split shaft extending above the stone head to form a pair of ears and the stone head has been painted differently on each side in natural ochres as can be seen. A very decorative and unusual piece that was possibly ceremonial in function. The stone head is approx. 6" by 3" and the shaft including ears is 23".
