CEREMONIAL FEATHERS
|
|
These rare Aboriginal ceremonial feathers were apparently collected in the 1930's and consist of no less than 26 individually bound groups of feathers, some large groupings and some small. As can be seen in the photo's they were wrapped in an old envelope with the words 'King Mellon of the Nelson' and 'ABORIGINAL' written on the back of the envelope. The front of the envelope bears the name 'Western Motor Works Pty Ltd' 'Longreach Q.' The name 'King Mellon of the Nelson' is the same as would be found on a 'King Plate' in regards to a tribal leader. The feathers appear to be Emu and were obviously ceremonial in nature and the gent I bought them from said that his Grandfather who was a stockman around Longreach in Quennsland, Australia aquired them in the 1930's. The overall length of the feathers is 9". PRICE: $125USD |
