An extremely rare Australian Aboriginal shield with sacred or totemic designs profusely etched on both sides. The designs on the front are of the style normally only found on sacred Aboriginal turingas or message boards and the shield was probably only used in a ceremonial capacity. The quality of the work on this shield has to be seen to be believed as it is a truly stunning piece. It is totally covered in red ochre except for a few patches of wear.
