This superbly carved Aboriginal shield was collected in Western Australia by a nurse working in an Aboriginal settlement in the 1950's The shield is of a style typical of the southern part of West Australia and has raised carvings of sharks and turtles on the front and on the rear features sawfish and dugong. These carvings are raised above the surround timber and the shield also features the typical criss cross pattern found on Western Australian shields. A superb and unusual shield. The length is 18" by 4" wide.
