Aboriginal shield from the Pitjandjara area of South Australia with unusual and fire blackened raised totemic patterns all over the face. The back of the shield has nine pecked bands running across the width. I have not been able to ascertain the significance of the patterns used on this piece although the quality of the work is quite exceptional as can be seen. Size is 28" * 4"
