A good large example of a hook used to hang food or other items to keep them off the floor and away from rodents. This hook is obviously of a female ancestor figure and has been painted in natural ochres with a natural fibre skirt and shell eyes. The hook was collected in 1971 by a public servant in New Guinea. Height is 41" by 13" at widest.
